27 notes

Film Genres understood as reduced to one simplified struggle.

thoroughbredosin:

Horror: The struggle of gender. Also asks the question: What is human and what is not human?

Western: The struggle of old and new. Asks the question: Is new better or easier?

Drama/Romance: Struggle of one vs. oneself. Asks the question: What does it mean to be human? (different than what is human..)

Film Noir: Struggle of identity. Asks the question: Who am I? What am I capable of doing?

Science Fiction: Struggle of science vs. religion or military vs. science. Asks the question: What is humanity capable of

Comedy: Struggle of social norms. Asks the question: What is socially acceptable and what is not?

Action/Adventure: Struggle of the clash of cultures. Usually with tones of xenophobia.
